Common remote control faults and repairs
First, when we receive a remote control that needs repair, we will set the pointer multimeter to the R×1K range, take an infrared receiving diode, connect the black probe to its positive terminal and the red probe to its negative terminal. Install the battery in the remote control, point it at the connected infrared receiving diode, and press any button. If the multimeter pointer moves slightly, it indicates that this remote control is transmitting normally.
If the pointer does not move, it indicates that the remote control is indeed broken. Disassemble the remote control, set the multimeter to the DC 10V range, measure the battery voltage while pressing any button. If the voltage drops slightly, it indicates that the infrared transmitter is damaged, and you can try replacing it with a new one. If the voltage does not drop, check the 455kHz crystal oscillator and try replacing it with a new one. If the voltage is low or there is no voltage at all, replace it with a new pair of batteries and use sandpaper to polish the contact points of the battery compartment. If a specific button is not working, you can cut a piece of corresponding cigarette aluminum foil and glue it onto the contact surface of that button with strong adhesive, then let it dry.
Through the above checks, the problem can generally be resolved. I have repaired many remote controls and rarely encounter damage to other components such as filter capacitors, integrated circuits, or driver transistors.
